BASES Member companies are committed to the highest standards of product manufacture and installation. Members agree to conform to all appropriate industry standards and have produced their own guidelines to enhance these standards where appropriate.
A European Standard, EN 13200 2006 a European Standard for spectator facilities is currently being updated by the committee upon which BASES is represented. This covers Spectator facilities, Buildings open to the public, Entertainment facilities, Stadia, Sports facilities, Assembly facilities, Seating, Fixing, Dimensions, Performance, Corrosion resistance, Weathering, Strength of materials, Durability, Thermal resistance, Ergonomics, Performance testing.
The feeling however is that the European Standard will be too simplistic in a number of areas, and as seating is a piece of safety equipment, BASES believe that it should be strenghened in various ways so are updating their own Blue Guide last published in 1991. Other European countries such as France and Germany, already have their own national standards that will run alongside 13200 so the British Industry Standard wont be out of step in that respect.
Important considerations when purchasing seating for a spectator facility include Strength, Durability, Fire Rating and a Safe and Comfortable Layout
